To measure your windows for drapes and curtains, first gather your measuring tools:
Next, figure out the placement of your curtain rod. You can mount the rod 6 inches above the window or extend the rod 6 inches to the left and right. Adding a few inches to your measurement gives the illusion of larger windows and provides you with plenty of light and views when the window treatments are drawn.
Then, measure the width of your window. When installing an inside-mounted rod, measure the interior of the window. When installing an outside-mounted rod, measure from the exterior trim from the left to the right.
Finally, measure the length. If installing an inside-mounted rod, measure from the sash to the sill. For an outside-mounted rod, measure from the rod position to your desired curtain drop.

The easiest window curtains to install are grommet or eyelet curtains and rod pocket curtains. Grommet (large metal rings) curtains have built-in “eyelets” where you can thread the curtain rod. With a rod pocket, you simply insert the curtain rod through the sewn-in sleeve in the back.
We offer a wide range of different types of curtains online and in-store, giving you plenty of options on what you can install.
